But before buying a fur cushion, one might feel a certain uneasiness. How do you care for such a cushion? No one wants a sofa cushion that can't be used thoughtlessly. But don't worry. A fur cushion is just as easy to care for as an ordinary lambskin - almost even easier! Below, we have compiled the most important information for you so that you can give your fur cushion the best care - and enjoy it for several years.
How do I wash a fur cushion?
As soon as you settle down comfortably with a glass of red wine or a bowl of ice cream and your favorite fur cushion behind you, the thought might arise: "What happens if I spill something on it?"
In everyday life, it's easy for a stain to end up on the fur cushion. Should this happen, it's best to follow these two basic rules:
1. Never wash the lambskin cover in the washing machine
2. Act as quickly as possible when spills occur
The reason you shouldn't machine wash your lambskin is that it washes away the tanning salts from the leather. This makes the leather hard and brittle, and the hairs could also felt.
Therefore, it is much more important to act quickly to prevent the stain from drying. Gently blot the stain without rubbing. If possible, remove the inner cushion so that it doesn't get soaked. It's important that the lambskin cover doesn't get completely wet, as this could damage the leather.
If the stain cannot be completely removed despite blotting, proceed as follows: Mix lukewarm water with a little wool detergent with lanolin and gently massage it into the stain. Then dab with a damp cloth, making sure the leather side remains as dry as possible. Then let the cover dry on a drying rack, with the fur side down.
If you only discover the stain once it has dried, you can try to carefully brush it out with a special fur brush. Some hairs may come loose during this process.
How do I care for a fur cushion?
Even if your fur cushion doesn't get stains, some regular care can't hurt. Since it's made of real lambskin, care is quite straightforward. Essentially, you need to regularly shake and beat out the fur cover. This way, dirt is loosened, and the hairs are slightly untangled. In addition, dust and crumbs that have settled in the fur are removed.
Shaking it out is easier if you have removed the inner cushion beforehand. The fur cover is usually lighter to handle, which makes care easier compared to ordinary lambskin. If you have already removed the inner cushion, you can also shake and beat it out so that it doesn't flatten.
Also, make sure that the fur cushion is not exposed to direct sunlight, as it could fade or discolour over time. If your cushion has smooth hairs, you can occasionally treat it with a special fur brush. This way you remove loose hairs and restore the fur's natural shine.
How do I care for a curly fur cushion?
In addition to our smooth-haired and short-haired fur cushions, you will also find several beautiful curly lambskin fur cushions. Most popular are our fur cushions made from curly Tibetan lambskin, which naturally features charming, fine corkscrew curls.
Caring for a curly fur cushion requires special attention. The most important thing is not to brush the cushion, as brushing smooths the curls and destroys their natural structure. Therefore, you should also avoid vacuuming. Instead, it is perfectly sufficient to shake out the cushion regularly.
If you use the cushion frequently, the curls may become less defined over time. To refresh the curls, you can slightly moisten your hands and gently knead the fur. After the fur dries, the curls will look beautiful again. Make sure to shake out excess water from the fur and keep the leather side dry.
How does my fur cushion stay fluffy?
In short, a fur cushion retains its fluffy appearance if kept dry and primarily serves as a decoration. But why buy a cuddly fur cushion if you're not allowed to use it? The main purpose of a fur cushion is to provide warmth and comfort and invite snuggling. Therefore, you should definitely use your fur cushion!
To maintain the fluffy and soft appearance of the fur cushion, there are three important care tips you should follow:
1. Regular shaking and, for smooth-haired cushions, careful brushing
2. Avoid stains
3. Treat spills immediately
If you have a curly fur cushion, you can simply comb the curls with your fingers to make them look less matted. Whether your fur cushion is short-haired, smooth-haired, or curly, it is helpful to remove the inner cushion, as it makes care more flexible.
How does a fur cushion become soft again?
Especially if your fur cushion has been in use for a long time or has perhaps been washed once or twice, it may lose some of its softness. The easiest way to make the fur soft again is to gently brush it. However, with curly fur cushions, there is a risk that the curls will be lost. The leather side mainly becomes hard when it has been soaked. In this case, you can try to carefully pull the leather over a smooth, not too sharp edge.
Overall, however, it is more effective to follow the correct care instructions and prevent the cushion from getting too worn.

Of course, you should still enjoy your fur cushion and enjoy it without worries - whether with ice cream and red wine or simply for snuggling!
