How do I care for an Icelandic lambskin?

Icelandic sheepskins are easy to care for and maintain their beauty with minimal effort. Usually, regular shaking is enough to remove dust and light dirt. If necessary, you can vacuum the hide on a low setting. Small stains can be removed by gentle hand washing with a mild wool detergent with lanolin. The hide should not be rubbed to protect the fibers. Afterwards, you should air dry the hide with the leather side up, away from direct sunlight and heating sources. With a special sheepskin brush, the hide can then be fluffed up again, keeping it soft and fluffy.

Since the hides are natural, a slight sheep smell may occasionally occur. This usually disappears on its own after a few days. Alternatively, you can air out the hide well to neutralize the smell.

BIO Sheepskins vs. Regular Sheepskins

We generally offer two variants: natural and dyed hides. The dyed ones are colored with natural dyes and therefore do not belong to our BIO sheepskins. We use this term instead for our natural sheepskins from Iceland, England, or Austria. These hides retain their original color and have been treated with a special, chemical-free tanning process using natural salts. This preserves their naturalness and original color.

Because of this gentle tanning, these sheepskins are particularly attractive for use on wooden furniture or in interiors where natural materials are trending and sustainability is highly valued.
