Inspired by these tips, we want to explain in this blog post how you can clean your lambskin with a home remedy – namely with baking soda.
It might sound a little silly that you can clean a genuine sheepskin with a baking product, but we assure you: it's no joke!
Baking soda is naturally odor-neutralizing and is therefore ideal if your lambskin has absorbed an odor or if you want to freshen it up if it looks flat after several months or years. This method is also environmentally friendly, as it does not require the use of chemicals.
How to clean your lambskin with baking soda
Sprinkle the baking soda generously over the sheepskin and let it work for the next few hours – preferably overnight, to achieve the best effect.
Then shake the rug thoroughly and beat it to remove the baking soda. If you have a smooth-haired rug, you can also carefully vacuum it on the lowest setting to remove all traces of the baking soda.
Finally, brush the rug with a special fur brush and give the sheepskin one last shake so that the hairs fall loosely and naturally.

Establishing a care routine for your sheepskin doesn't have to be cumbersome. Below we have compiled three tips – in prioritized order – with which you can keep your lambskin beautiful, soft, and fluffy.
1. Regular shaking and airing
Regularly shaking and airing your sheepskin helps to keep the hairs beautiful and fluffy. This also gently removes dust and dirt. This cleaning method may seem superficial, but it is almost always sufficient if you want to take good care of your lambskin, as the wool fat lanolin makes the fur (almost) self-cleaning.
You can also place the lambskin on a drying rack with the fur side down and tap the leather side to remove more stubborn dirt.
Place the rug on a drying rack or over a clothesline to air it out, e.g., while you vacuum the living room, to remove dust and prevent odors in advance. Please make sure not to leave the sheepskin in direct sunlight to avoid discoloration.
2. Remove stains quickly
If something is spilled on the fur, it is important to remove the stain as quickly as possible. Essentially, the goal is to keep the leather side dry to prevent it from getting soaked and damaged.
