Quality

How do you recognize the quality of a lambskin? And how do you verify it? When purchasing such a high-value product, it is important to be able to convince yourself of its outstanding quality. This is what we do ourselves when we select only the best lambskins for our Premium Collection.

So what do we look for when selecting premium pelts, and what can you expect from the products accordingly? Two properties play an important role for us, as they are not only immediately noticeable during use, but are also a sign of above-average quality and a pelt that lasts a long time. Firstly, we check the density of the pelts. Has the wool grown evenly, or are there less dense areas? This is crucial for the comfort you should ultimately enjoy, but it is also a sign of a healthy and well-kept sheep. We also pay attention to the appearance of the pelt, which should of course be flawless at first glance. Upon closer inspection, it can be seen that some pelts are shinier than others. These are the pelts of outstanding quality that can be found in our Premium Collection.

Care

Your lambskin rug requires very little care to retain its original quality for a long time. To maintain the soft expression of the fur, you should brush it thoroughly about once a week with a fur brush. If possible, it also helps to shake out and beat the fur rug. Given the size of this rug, we would recommend doing this with at least two people. You can also vacuum the rug gently, but you should set the vacuum cleaner to the lowest setting.

As for any stains on the fur, fresh stains should always be dabbed off quickly with a damp cloth. Make sure that the underside of the pelt remains dry, as this side consists of leather, which hardens when it dries out. Dried stains can in some cases be combed out with the fur brush. If you are unsure about a stain or cannot get it out, please feel free to contact us.

With a dyed fur rug, it should also be noted that it should not lie in the sun, as the color will otherwise change. All rugs should be rotated every now and then so that the rug is worn evenly and does not get any noticeable pressure marks.

Origin

From the other side of the world, in dreamy New Zealand, the pelts were transported by ship to Europe to land in your home. And the pelts themselves have been on a journey, quite apart from the change of location. Once they were the natural protection of a living animal, they have undergone an incredible transformation into a product that, while still reminiscent of the sheep pasture, also fits perfectly into the bedroom.

Just imagine how the journey of the pelts began. In your mind's eye, you see a picturesque New Zealand mountain backdrop. Dark gray rocks against a deep blue sky—streaked, as it couldn't be otherwise, with small, delicate fleecy clouds. The real sheep wander many hundreds of meters below through the wide, green hilly landscape, in search of the best places to graze and rest. Their fur protects the skin from the sun and simultaneously retains heat. If a sharp wind sweeps over the herd on a hilltop, the animals may shiver, but their bodies still remain warm under their thick coats. Especially at night, when it gets cool, the furs help store heat as the sheep huddle together and fall peacefully asleep. When you lay your lambskin rug out at home, think about what a phenomenal product it is.

Of course, part of this journey is that the animals are slaughtered so that their pelts can be processed. However, our NATURES Collection pelts are produced exclusively as by-products of meat production. In slaughterhouses, pelts are useless waste, to which we give a new purpose through careful tanning and a supply chain that leads into your home. In this way, we support production where no animal is killed solely for the sake of its fur.

The production of furs can be burdensome to the environment if not carried out with care. This means that fur production can have a negative impact on the environment. But it also means that the industry can prevent a great deal of damage, make up for lost time, and improve its carbon footprint through sustainable production methods and a general green rethink.
